The "Path Of Voices" Pieces Are To Promote Peace And Expose
The Pain Of Violence.
Two more "Path of Voices" sculptures have been installed at La Follette
and Memorial High Schools and will be dedicated on Tuesday.
Sculptures were previously installed at East
and West high schools.
The sculptures are part of a project that creates public works of art to promote
peace and expose the pain of violence.
The stone sculptures are accompanied by recorded oral histories and testimonials.
The sculptures are intended to provide contemplative spaces designed for students
and other citizens to gain a deeper understanding of the complexities of violence. The
project is a collaboration between Madison high school students and New York
artist Bradley McCallum, who is a 1985 graduate of the Madison School District.
The dedication ceremony at Memorial High School, 201 S. Gammon Road, is scheduled
for 8:45 a.m. just north of the school. The La Follette ceremony is set for
1 p.m. on the east side of the school, 702 Pflaum Road, next to the side parking
lot. Candlelight ceremonies at all four sculptures will be held at 3 p.m.
Money is being sought for a sculpture at a fifth school, Malcolm Shabazz City
High School.
